For those I haven’t met yet…hello! My name is Jess, and I have been writing theatre grants for over fifteen years - yep, that makes me sound old…or wise…one of those.
Quick run down: I am the co-Artistic Director of Open Pit Theatre, a Yukon-based theatre company, and I work as an independent theatre maker/creator. I teach grant writing at The Canadian College of Performing Arts, offer private grant consultation, and have sat on a few grant juries - so grant writing is very much a part of my day-to-day life!
Enough about me…..why are YOU here?
Are you brand new at writing grants and find it daunting? Have you written a few grants but no success? Are you experienced at writing grants but are looking to update some of your techniques?
If so, I might be able to help.
When I first started writing grants I had absolutely no idea what I was doing, and thus, I received A LOT of denial letters. I talked with the grant administrators to find out why, enrolled in a grant writing course (the only one available in Canada at that time was online through Grant MacEwan), and yet I was still not successful. Rejection, no answers, try again, rejection, ask a few colleagues, try again, rejection.
Sound familiar?
The more I teach grant writing, the more I realize that SO MANY OF US have experienced the same thing. Either you meet someone who shares a few secrets or you give up! I luckily met someone who shared a few secrets - which is why I am here.
Here is how it works:
The course is split up into 5 consecutive parts - each part building upon the previous.
Part 1 = HOW GRANTS WORK
Part 2 = CREATING A FUNDABLE PROJECT
Part 3 = HOW TO ANSWER THE QUESTIONS
Part 4 = THE BUDGET
Part 5 = SUPPORT MATERIAL & LOGISTICS
I recommend taking all 5 parts, but that is up to you. Pick and choose as you wish! There are two options for attending the workshop:
